Birth
is a celebration of life
and holds the power
to transform.
85% of pregnant women could have a
natural birth. But we live in a time where the number
of medical interventions in normal births is rising
and the national caesarean rate has reached almost
30%!
There are many forces in the present medical model
of care that can act against a woman's instincts.
It is easy to loose faith and believe that it is not
possible to go through labour and birth without intervention.
In order to have a satisfying birth experience a woman
needs to develop her own attitudes and values. This
means learning about pregnancy and birth and taking
a look at beliefs, needs and fears.
It takes strength
and courage to make choices that are not based on
fear.
Birth needs trust in a process that
women's bodies were designed for.
It is a very intimate event. The choice of a care
giver, the support people and right set-up are important
parts of it and can make a big difference. The birthing
woman needs a space where she can allow herself to
be vulnerable, relax deeply and let-go. This space
can easily be created at home and in birthing centres
and with some effort also in hospitals.
Birth is a natural healthy event, not a sickness that
needs to be treated.
It is up to the pregnant woman to decide what kind
of care and birth experience she wants.
